Lagos, Nigeria – On Saturday, February 15, 2025, thousands of Niger Delta residents in Lagos and across the South-West region gathered at the prestigious Nigeria Hall of Fame, JECO College, Owode, Ketu, Lagos, for the "Niger Delta Governors' Spiritual Deliverance Service Day." The event underscored the community's unity and unwavering support for their regional leaders while calling for urgent divine intervention.
The Mothers of Niger Delta, a determined group advocating for regional development, led the gathering under the theme "To Make Niger Delta Great Again." They called on governors to address pressing issues such as poor governance, economic instability, insecurity, and environmental degradation, reaffirming their commitment to reclaiming the region’s lost glory.
Call for Leadership and Action
The organizer of the event, distinguished Comrade Joseph Evah, former Publicity Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and Coordinator of the Ijaw Monitoring Group (IMG), sought divine guidance for Niger Delta governors, including, Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Senator Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) Senator Monday Okebholo (Edo), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers).
In a bid to inspire faith and spiritual renewal, the event featured a powerful musical ministration by Ebiseri J. Egbekai, while over 2,000 Bibles were distributed to attendees. The gathering also served as a call to action, urging leaders to draw inspiration from past trailblazers such as HRM King Alfred Diete-Spiff, Chief Udokobo Jacob Esuene, and Chief Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, who played pivotal roles in industrializing the region.

Comrade Evah passionately criticized the current state of governance in the region, lamenting the lack of industrial initiatives despite the region’s wealth in natural resources.
"Charity begins at home. Why are Niger Delta governors failing to utilize our raw materials to create jobs for our youths?" he questioned. "In the past, our founding governors, appointed by General Yakubu Gowon, used crude oil by-products to manufacture glass and plastic chairs, owned fishing trawlers, built industries, and provided employment. Today, we are forced to buy chairs from Lagos-based Eleganza at exorbitant prices. Why can’t our governors collaborate with Eleganza to establish industries in the Niger Delta?"
He further decried the decline of the region’s fishing industry, stating, "The fishing hubs in Brass, Akassa, and Bakassi have been hijacked by Lebanese and Chinese trawlers, with their catch offloaded in Lagos. Where are the Niger Delta governors’ fishing trawlers? Back then, our leaders built textile industries, but today, we buy Ankara fabric from Lagos. It is time for our leaders to utilize the region’s raw materials to create industries and jobs."

Spiritual Deliverance for Governance
Emphasizing the power of collective prayers, Evah urged mothers to continue interceding for their leaders. "A mother’s prayer is a solution to her children’s predicament," he stated. "We are praying for our governors to be delivered from laziness and dependency on Abuja’s 13% derivation funds. They must wake up and build industries with our abundant resources."
He further stressed, "Our elected governors need serious deliverance. The devil has hijacked their minds, and only God can restore them. If we fail to confront them now, future generations will suffer."

Security and Regional Protection
Addressing the pressing security challenges in the region, Evah commended the South-West for establishing the Amotekun Security Corps, urging the Niger Delta governors to adopt a similar approach initiative to safeguard their people..
"Where is the South-South's homeland security to protect our people? While bandits terrorize our communities, our governors remain silent. They must act now instead of cowering in fear. Our mothers and children deserve safety."
He also criticized the governors for their silence on the Tax Reform Bill, noting that while Northern leaders actively debated the issue, Niger Delta governors, who are designated as Chief Security Officers of their states, remained passive.
